What is witch?

A witch is a person who practices witchcraft, also known as "the craft". Witchcraft is a practice that involves rituals, spells and incantations, often originating from nature-based religions like Wicca. Witches may have a connection to a particular deity or pantheon, but not always.

Throughout history, witches have been persecuted, often associated with evil and dark magic. This fear of witches led to the infamous witch trials, especially in Europe and North America during the 16th and 17th centuries.

However, today, witchcraft is often seen as a legitimate spiritual practice, with many people identifying as witches or practicing witchcraft. Witches may practice alone or in groups, called covens, and use herbs, crystals and divination tools like tarot cards to aid in their practice.

The depiction of witches in popular culture often includes the use of broomsticks, pointy hats, and cauldrons, but in reality, witches come from all walks of life and their practices vary greatly.
