What is weight?

Weight is a measure of the force exerted on an object due to the gravity of the earth or any other celestial body. It is the measure of the amount of matter contained in an object. The standard unit of measurement for weight is the Newton (N) or the pound (lb) in the metric and imperial systems, respectively. Weight is different from mass which is the measure of the amount of matter contained in an object, whereas weight takes into account the gravitational force acting on that object. The weight of an object may vary depending on its location, as the gravitational pull of earth is not uniform everywhere. Weight can be measured using a scale or a balance. The concept of weight has been known since ancient times and is widely used in fields like physics, engineering, and everyday life.
