What is takemikazuchi?

Takemikazuchi is a Japanese deity in Shinto mythology, often depicted as a thunder god and a warrior god. He is believed to be the god of swordsmanship, martial arts, and warfare. Takemikazuchi is said to be a fierce and powerful deity, capable of bringing victory in battle and protecting his worshippers from harm.

In ancient times, Takemikazuchi was believed to have descended from the heavens to assist the Emperor Jimmu in his conquest to establish the first Japanese imperial dynasty. He is commonly associated with the shrine at Kashima, where he is enshrined as one of the main kami (deities).

Takemikazuchi is often depicted as a muscular warrior holding a sword, wearing armor, and riding on a white deer. He is also sometimes shown with a thunderbolt or carrying a mirror, symbols of his power and authority. Worship of Takemikazuchi is still prevalent in Japan today, with many martial artists and warriors offering prayers to him for strength and protection.
