What is synovia?

Synovia is a clear, viscoelastic fluid present in synovial joints. It is produced by the synovial membrane and serves to lubricate and cushion the joint, reducing friction and wear on the articular surfaces. Synovia also provides important nutrients to the joint tissues and helps to remove waste and debris. The composition of synovia is primarily water and a complex mixture of proteins, glycosaminoglycans, and other molecules. Dysfunction of the synovial membrane and the production or quality of synovia can contribute to joint pain, stiffness, and degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis.
