What is scirocco?

Scirocco is a name given to a high-speed and powerful wind that originates from the Sahara desert and blows towards the Mediterranean Sea. It is a hot and dry wind that brings sand and dust particles making the weather conditions unpleasant. Scirocco winds are mostly experienced in parts of Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The wind can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h and can last for several hours or even days. Scirocco can be a hazardous weather event as it can cause damage to buildings, uproot trees, and knock down power lines. Additionally, it can also cause respiratory problems due to the dust and sand particles that are carried by the wind.
