What is nistagma?

Nistagmus is a condition characterized by involuntary eye movements that often lead to uncontrollable eye movements. It can affect one or both eyes and can occur in a variety of conditions, including a neurological problem, an inner ear disorder, or a result of certain medications. The condition can be classified as either horizontal, vertical, or rotary. Essentially, when the eyes move involuntarily, their way of seeing things becomes affected, causing fluctuations in visual acuity and affecting balance and coordination. This condition can make reading and other tasks that require sustained vision more difficult. Treatment options depend on the underlying cause and may include medication, surgery, or other forms of therapy.
