What is kandili?

Kandili is a type of candle which is traditionally used in Orthodox Christian cultures during religious events, particularly during the Easter season. Kandili candles consist of cylindrical or tall candlesticks with a single flame, which are usually made of beeswax, paraffin, or vegetable oil. They are often used in church ceremonies and are usually lit by the priest or a member of the faithful during the Easter Vigil. Kandili candles are also used by families at home during religious rituals such as evening prayer, and are seen as a symbol of hope and light, representing the resurrection of Christ and his victory over death. In some cultures, kandili candles are also believed to provide protection from evil spirits and are therefore lit in the home to ward off negative energy.
