What is hobo?

A hobo is a person who is homeless and typically travels from place to place, especially by hopping on freight trains. The term "hobo" originated in the late 19th century in the United States and originally referred to migrant workers who moved around and did odd jobs.

Hobos often live a transient lifestyle and rely on handouts, odd jobs, and charity to survive. They typically carry few possessions and have little or no permanent residence.

Hobo culture has developed its own unique language, including slang terms, signs, and symbols, which allow hobos to communicate with each other and leave messages for future travelers.

The life of a hobo can be dangerous, with risks that include injuries from train hopping, encounters with law enforcement, and exposure to extreme weather conditions. Despite the many challenges, some people choose to live as hobos as a way of rejecting mainstream society and living a more nomadic lifestyle.
