What is contextual?

Contextual refers to the circumstances, environment, or conditions in which something happens, exists, or is interpreted. It is commonly used in reference to language, where the meaning of a word or phrase can be influenced by the context in which it is used. In other words, the meaning of a term or expression can be understood only by taking into consideration the context in which it is used. Contextual information can also provide insight into the meaning of a situation, event, or piece of information when the facts alone may not be sufficient to understand it fully. For example, understanding the context of a historical event requires knowledge of the social, political, and economic conditions in which it occurred. Similarly, understanding the context of a piece of literature or artwork requires knowledge of the cultural and historical background in which it was created.
