What is cocek?

Cocek is a traditional musical and dance style popular in the Balkan region, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is characterized by fast-paced 2/4 or 4/4 rhythms, often played on brass instruments such as trumpets and saxophones. The dance associated with cocek is typically performed in a circle with dancers holding hands, and features quick, energetic steps and spins. Cocek music and dance have been influenced by various cultural and historical influences, including Ottoman and Romani traditions. In recent years, cocek has also become popular with modern groups who fuse it with other styles such as rock and electronic music.
