What is chauvinism?

Chauvinism is a form of bias and discrimination in which a person believes that their own gender, race, nation, or other group is inherently superior to others, and should be given special treatment as a result. It often involves a sense of entitlement and a disregard for the rights and dignity of those outside the favored group. Chauvinism can lead to prejudice, racism, sexism, and other forms of bigotry, and has been associated with a range of social harms, including gender and racial inequality, nationalism, and political extremism.
