What is zikr?

Zikr, also spelled "dhikr", is a form of remembrance or mindfulness practiced in Islam. It involves repeating the names of Allah, reciting Quranic verses, or engaging in other forms of devotional prayer to remember and glorify God.

Zikr is considered an important practice in Islam as it helps believers strengthen their connection with Allah, purify their hearts, and seek forgiveness for their sins. It is believed to bring peace and tranquility to one's heart and soul.

There are different forms of zikr, including silent or whispered recitation, group recitation, and recitation while walking or performing daily tasks. Some Sufi orders also incorporate music and dance into their zikr practices.

Zikr is often performed after prayers, during times of distress or hardship, and as a way to maintain spiritual awareness throughout the day. It is considered a way of achieving spiritual growth and closeness to God.
