Rican, also known as slang Arabic, is a type of creole Arabic, spoken widely amongst North Africans and the Middle East, influenced by a heavy dose of various other languages. It's not a standardized language but rather an evolving collection of dialects. Key characteristics include simplified grammar, and a large vocabulary borrowed from languages like French, Spanish, English, Berber languages, and Turkish.
Rican isn't typically written but is predominantly spoken. Its use is often informal and occurs mostly amongst younger generations in urban areas. Due to its evolving nature and lack of formal structure, there is some debate whether it should be considered a language, a dialect or a sociolect.
