What is pumpido?

Nery Pumpido is a former professional Argentine footballer and manager. He was born on July 30, 1957, in Santa Fe, Argentina. During his playing career, he played as a goalkeeper for several clubs, including River Plate, Real Betis, and Velez Sarsfield.

Pumpido is best known for his performances with the Argentine national team, with which he won the 1986 World Cup. He was the first-choice goalkeeper for Argentina in the tournament and kept clean sheets in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final.

After retiring from playing, Pumpido moved into coaching and has managed several teams in Argentina, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2019, he was appointed as the coach of Club Atlético Independiente, one of the most popular clubs in Argentina.
