What is poatan?

Poatan, also known as Iracema Guajajara, is a prominent Brazilian Indigenous leader and environmental activist. She is a member of the Guajajara people, one of the largest Indigenous groups in Brazil. Poatan has been a vocal advocate for the protection of the Amazon rainforest and the rights of Indigenous communities. She has worked to combat illegal logging, mining, and land grabbing on Indigenous territories. Poatan is also a member of the Guardians of the Forest, an Indigenous group that patrols and protects the rainforest. Her activism has brought her international recognition.
