What is durón?

Durón is a brand name for a type of computer processor chip manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). It was released in 2000 as an affordable alternative to the more expensive Athlon processor. The Durón was designed for use in budget desktop computers and laptops, and was available in speeds ranging from 600 MHz to 1.8 GHz.

The Durón used the Socket A architecture and was based on the same core as the Athlon processor, but with some features disabled or reduced to lower the price. It was popular with users who wanted to build or upgrade their own computers on a tight budget. It was eventually discontinued in 2004 when AMD shifted its focus to the Athlon 64 processor line.
