What is demarc?

Demarc, short for demarcation point, is a physical location where telecommunication service providers’ lines enter a building. It is a point of separation that divides the responsibilities and ownership of wiring and equipment between the customer and the service provider. It typically consists of a small box or junction where the service provider’s wiring connects to the customer’s internal wiring. Demarcation points are critical for proper functioning of telecommunication services, as they allow for easy identification and isolation of wiring or equipment issues. In addition, demarc points are also important for billing and service responsibility, as they establish which party is responsible for which portion of the wiring and equipment.
