The Soviet Union was a leading world power during this time, offering an alternative political and economic system to capitalism and inspiring socialist movements around the world. Its political structure was centralized, with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union exercising control over all aspects of society. The Soviet Union was also known for its military might, its contributions to science and technology, and its cultural achievements in art, literature, and music. The symbol of the Soviet Union was the hammer and sickle, and the flag had a red background with a yellow hammer and sickle in the center.
